Striving for Another Sober Spring Break

Message for the Parents:

For many, the month of March is seen as the official start to the “SPRING BREAK FESTIVITIES”. While this is a joyous time for students who can find time to relax, and even for families and friends that may get together, it also has the potential to be a very dangerous one if individuals are not responsible.

It is common for accidents like DUIs, and even those considered more serious and fatal like overdoses, to occur. This can be attributed to the fact that this time period typically leads to alcohol use (without proper consumption practices or driving precautions) and other drug use in party atmospheres. Be sure your teen understands your stance on underage drinking, vaping, and drug use. Know where your teen is headed if they are not traveling with immediate family or being dropped off by you . It’s also a good idea to speak with the parents of the friends who are hosting the event (e.g., party, vacation trip, etc.) to ensure and enforce everyone’s expectations regarding travel and general activities to help keep them safe.

Let’s keep our students sober and be safe this Spring Break!
